Peplum (noun, from Greek peplon or peplos, a shawl or tunic worn in ancient Greece.) Prevalent design element from Spring 2012 continuing strongly for Fall 2012, in which a flaring, pleated, or ruffled panel of fabric extends from the waist of a jacket, dress, or blouse, typically to hip length. Think Balenciaga, Céline or Bottega Veneta.
